» Health Screenings:
Preventive Health provides screenings for numerous health factors
and potential threats to health.
- Blood Pressure Screening:
Our periodic blood pressure screenings test systolic and diastolic blood
pressure against what your numbers should be. At these screenings, educational
literature and counseling are available to you.
- HIV Testing:
A specialized trained RN will provide HIV counseling and orasure testing per
written consent of the individual. There is no cost for this service, but it
may take 7-10 days for the test results. This service is always confidential,
but may also be annonamous. The purpose of the HIV counseling and testing
program is to prevent the spread of HIV and to reduce HIV morbidity through
voluntary counseling and testing. Pre-counseling mandated before any testing
can be performed and then RN will notify individual when test results are in.
An appt will be set up for for results and face to face post- test counseling.

- Tuberculin Testing:
Tuberculosis (also known as TB) is an infectious disease which affects
primarily the lungs, but can also affect the central nervous system and other
bodily systems. Public Health offers Tuberculosis management program, this
includes tuberculosis (PPD) testing and educational materials to all Lewis
county residents. All potential cases are investigated and treated accordingly
to the recommendations of the NYSDOH and the individuals personal physician.
There are no active TB cases in Lewis County at this time, but active TB
individuals would be provided with home visits by the Public Health Nurses to
monitor their medication intake and overall health status while in the
infectious state.
- Sexually transmitted
disease program:
All sexually transmitted disease reports received in Lewis County are
confidential and reported to the NYS Department of Health. The Department of
Health may contact and/or visit each individual at their discretion. Lewis
County STD services are provided through private physicians, Planned
Parenthood of Northern NY and by referral to STD clinics in Jefferson county.
Lewis County Public Health has a telephone information and referral service
regarding all STD’s. We have educational materials regarding sexually
transmitted diseases and ways to minimize the spread of disease are provided
to residence and community agencies if you would like further information
