My family has been eligible
for Family Health Plus for several years. My husband and myself are both
self-employed. Our daughter left for college and turned 21 Sept '08. We
received a letter from the state telling us we would no longer qualify for
this program after 12/31/08. I received this letter two days after I was
told to go back for a second mammogram.
When I went to my appointment
the surgeon in early Dec. I told the office manager that I would be
without insurance at the end of the year. She went completely out of her
way to get my biopsy scheduled the week between Christmas and New Years
(no easy task). Miracle No. 1 However, we were faced with a
positive result and a new challenge. She came into the office and we were
both quiet, then she said "from the moment I don't want you to worry about
insurance, no one is going to take your home away, let me worry about
insurance." I looked at her and said, "Amy, you know, right now I can't
worry about insurance, I will let you take that off my shoulders." Two
days later, I received a call from the Wellness Connection, a program in
Jefferson and Lewis County to assist people like me. I would be completely
covered until Dec. 31, 2009. Miracle No. 2... I would have to
follow up with a drug called Femara for 5 years. I didn't like the sound
of that because of the side effects, but was convinced it was a key
insurance policy to my continued life without cancer. Then I thought, what
happens after the end of the year? This is a very expensive drug. I talked
to the Wellness Connection during one of her check up calls. She informed
me that since the drug was follow-up treatment, I was completely covered
until I no longer needed any more treatment!!!!. Miracle No. 5
I am not lucky; I have God
working for me along with some exceptional people in the medical
community. I was armed with so many people praying for me, it was
overwhelming and I am grateful for each of them. Thank you for letting me
share...
